Mark is one of our clinical directors and graduated from Glasgow University in 1995. After qualifying, he joined a busy small animal practice in Kent where he discovered and developed his passion for small animal surgery. In 2003 he obtained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery and in 2005 moved to Grove Lodge to head up the soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery service, providing an internal as well as external referral surgical service for local practices. Mark is a highly experienced surgeon and enjoys both soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery and particularly enjoys fracture repair, airway surgery and complex wound reconstruction. He also has a strong interest in radiology and in 2011 gained his RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Diagnostic imaging and heads the CT service at Grove Lodge.
Mark has a busy and varied surgical case load and is happy to take both soft tissue and orthopaedic referrals, and has performed many thousands of procedures over the years. Soft tissue including oncologic surgery and wound reconstruction, arytenoid lateralisation, BOAS surgery, perineal urethrostomy, perineal hernia repair, laparoscopic ovarioectomy, laparoscopic cryptorcidechtomy and liver biopsy. Orthopaedic surgery including TPLO, lateral fabella suture, patella surgery, carpal/tarsal arthrodesis, and fracture repair.
Mark is also involved with the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) and was a committee member and then chairman of the charity Petsavers. He has been involved in the BSAVA Certificate in Small Animal Surgery since its inception, as a mentor and forum moderator and has acted as an examiner since 2014. He also serves on the BSAVA education committee.
Outside of work Mark is a keen kite surfer, paddle boarder, mountain biker and snowboarder and enjoys continuing to create his ideal campervan. He lives with two unruly cats Ralph and Florence.
